![]() ![]() In 2005, the interns collected the addresses for the map and one of the authors (JF) used Map Info™ 24 to make the actual map. They were to note the names, addresses, and characteristics of places at which food was available for purchase, as well as venues for indoor and outdoor exercise. This is an area of approximately one square mile. Interns were instructed to survey the 20 city blocks closest to their clinics. The mapping exercise was one of several activities designed to help interns understand the social determinants of diabetes and obesity to better inform their clinical practice and develop advocacy activities. ![]() We chose these items to map because of the wide international literature linking the density of fast-food restaurants 20 – 22 and other neighborhood characteristics 14, 23 with low-income neighborhoods and obesity. 19 In 20, we chose to map sources of exercise and food in the neighborhoods around the clinics where we practice. Mapping exercises have been part of the orientation for many years and draw on existing departmental interest and expertise. During this month, we introduce the interns (many of whom are not from New York) to the health problems of the Bronx and their social determinants. As part of this training, interns are given a month-long orientation to the Bronx and to social medicine. The Montefiore Medical Center Residency Program in Social Medicine is a unique residency program that trains board-eligible clinicians (family physicians, internists, and pediatricians) to work in underserved communities. While we briefly describe our investigations and findings in this article, our primary goal is to demonstrate the capabilities of Google Earth as an inexpensive yet effective mapping technology that allows health professionals (and potentially community members) to better understand their social environment.ĬASE 1: MAPPING PLACES TO GET FOOD AND TO EXERCISE In the second case, medical students evaluated the availability of nutritious foods in the stores surrounding a student-run free clinic. In the first case, medical residents mapped sources of food and exercise around their outpatient clinical site. This article reports on two case studies of the use of Google Earth for community mapping in Bronx neighborhoods. People who are not familiar with mapping software can be easily trained to use Google Earth, and the resultant maps can be shared over the Internet. ![]() Google Earth allows sites to be identified in a variety of ways: by pointing to a location on a map, by inputting an individual address, or (in the Plus version) by importing addresses from a spreadsheet file or database. Map locations can be displayed with varied icons, allowing a visual ranking or classification system. Unlike commercial mapping software, they are available either for free (Google Earth) or for a modest price (Google Earth Plus). Google Earth and Google Earth Plus™ 17 mapping software have several advantageous features for such community mapping. Such an approach is congruent with the extensive literature examining neighborhoods and their effects on health. The community diagnosis informs not only individual clinical practice, but also community-wide efforts to promote health. 11 COPC was originally developed in the 1940s by the Karks in South Africa and was described by them as “a practice of social medicine.” 12 COPC begins with a community diagnosis, which is often based on detailed community maps. 8 Consistent with the principles of social medicine, 9, 10 we have adopted an approach incorporating elements of Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC). Diabetes and obesity are important problems in the predominantly working-class and immigrant communities served by the Department of Family and Social Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. ![]()

I thought they were bad ass and they never caused a single problem for me in over 2 years of using them, and I kept Retroarch overclocked. My Switch is half as interesting now but just recently getting into streaming my PS4 to Switch with Chiaki and PC with SkyNX helps.Ī lot of people in the Retroarch Switch thread would always put down the forwarders as if they were somehow bad. Sucks but now I have a 512 sd card that's half empty and now only Switch games. Now that they're broke on 12 again I'm not remaking them again just to have them break again later. I had to remake about the same amount of forwarders on firmware 9.0 and at the time I didn't have a gaming PC. But I'm not sure if it works away from my house. I just recently started using SkyNX to stream my PC onto my Switch, so I can still play those games on Switch. Like Conan179 said saves and states seem to work fine, although a few states went bad but I tested them and figured out they were bad on the switch too probably because of Retroarch updates. Sick of doing it at the moment so I'll wait until tomorrow to finish. Got about 300 done today with another 100 to go. The most time consuming part is getting the images off google and resizing each one, although I found a good bulk resizer. I use Launchbox for all my PC games so I have to make "forwarders" on it now. These mini-SUVs feature four-wheel drive but often use 2WD traction. Many Compact SUVs belong to the Crossover category. This crossing of different features from different types of car, typical of the Crossover, makes the car much better in terms of versatility. The bodywork and mechanics are also decidedly different. With SUVs, the engine and gearbox are arranged at a 90 degree angle in front of the rear axle of the car, making the front of the car much heavier than the rear. This difference is linked to factors, like the type of 4x4 traction and the distribution of the weight inside the vehicle. In fact, the SUV and Crossover, are driven in extremely different ways. Starting from the handling, a Crossover is much easier because it has a smaller footprint in terms of height and length and a lower weight, making it much easier to drive in the city. However, the difference between a SUV and crossover is actually quite noticeable. ![]() In fact, many people confuse SUVs with crossovers and sometimes even think they are the same type of car. While hybrid SUVs come with some challenges, they can also be a great fit for many drivers.Let’s try and clear up any possible misconceptions about SUVs and Crossovers. Manage it correctly and you can do much of your driving without ever dipping into the gasoline engine. Put simply, many hybrid SUVs don't deliver significant fuel savings compared to their gas-only counterparts.īut a hybrid SUV can make sense if your driving is limited to short commutes punctuated by stop-and-go traffic, especially if you opt for a plug-in hybrid that offers a cache of electric-only miles. ![]() Even the best choices come with certain compromises. Shopping for the hybrid SUV that best suits your needs is a bit like hunting for unicorns. Recharging the battery this way typically allows the car to travel a short distance on electricity alone, often between 10 and 20 miles, before the gasoline engine kicks in. Plug-in hybrids take this a step further by offering a connection that allows the battery pack to be charged from an electrical outlet, either from a standard household-style outlet or from the faster Level 2 and DC fast-charging connections. Nearly all hybrids can self-charge the electric battery through engine power (similar to a generator) or during braking when the kinetic energy generated can be converted to energy stored in the battery pack. Plug-In HybridĬonventional hybrids are primarily powered by a gasoline engine and aided by an electric motor in certain driving conditions, such as low-speed city driving (which, depending on speed, can be done solely on electric power) or to help boost a surge of acceleration. Furthermore, hybrid SUVs tend to come with a price premium over their non-hybrid competitors, which could very well offset your savings on gas. Hybrid SUVs are also generally at their least efficient when cruising at high speeds, so if you spend a lot of time driving on open roads where the speed limit is 65 mph or higher, you won't see maximal mileage benefits. On the other hand, hybrid battery packs eventually need replacing, which can be a big expense. With fewer tailpipe emissions, you also help keep your community's air cleaner. Depending on where you live, there may also be tax incentives for buying a hybrid or plug-in hybrid SUV, reducing the cost to you. Plug-in hybrid SUVs go a step further by allowing drivers to top up the battery whenever they're near a charger, making it possible for those with short commutes to travel almost entirely without gas. Conventional hybrid SUVs return excellent fuel economy, especially in city driving, while offering plenty of room for other passengers and cargo. Given consumers' preference for crossovers and SUVs today, it makes sense that there would be similar interest in hybrid versions of these versatile vehicles. ![]() 8/31/2023 0 Comments Serial communication![]() ![]() RS232 connection to MAX232 is discussed in Section 10.2. In order for those individual circuits to swap their information, they must share a common communication protocol. MAX232 1C chips are commonly referred to as line drivers. Introduction Embedded electronics is all about interlinking circuits (processors or other integrated circuits) to create a symbiotic system. Communicating serially involves sending a series of digital pulses. ![]() There are different types of serial protocol, such as CAN, RS232, RS485, I2C, SPI, etc., all of them are serial communication. For this reason, to connect any RS232 to a microcontroller system we must use voltage converters such as MAX232 to convert the TTL logic levels to the RS232 voltage levels, and vice versa. The most common form of communication between electronic devices is serial communication. Technically, serial communication is the process of sending data bit to bit over a transmission line. In RS232, a 1 is represented by -3 to -25 V, while a 0 bit is +3 to +25 V, making -3 to +3 undefined. However, since the standard was set long before the advent of the TTL logic family, its input and output voltage levels are not TTL compatible. This standard is used in PCs and numerous types of equipment. The mbed Microcontroller can communicate with a host PC through a USB Virtual Serial Port over the same USB cable that is. A client device needs to reply every notification from the host device as quick as possible (this. One host device initiates communication and keeps sending notification on a client device. The data exchange pattern is handshake-like. I have already done it with USB and it works. I am interested in doing serial communication with the RX TX pins, not USB. ![]() Read on to learn more about these two distinct communication protocols used with serial applications and devices. These protocols support asynchronous data transfer and synchronous data transfer. As such, serial devices should have two serial pins: the receiver, RX, and the transmitter, TX. The most critical requirement of the communication is low latency or delay between transmitting and receiving. I read that the difference between a serial communication (uart) and IC2 is that IC2 is only one way, that is, it only sends or receives and not both at the same time. Serial communication is usually accomplished using one of the two main serial protocols. Today, RS232 is the most widely used serial I/O interfacing standard. A serial bus consists of just two wires - one for sending data and another for receiving. In this book we refer to it simply as RS232. RS232B and RS232C were issued in 19, respectively. In 1963 it was modified and called RS232A. To allow compatibility among data communication equipment made by various manufacturers, an interfacing standard called RS232 was set by the Electronics Industries Association (EIA) in 1960. ![]() |
